Biography

Dr. Ivy L. Curtis is an accomplished educational executive, nonprofit leader, and advocate for community empowerment whose life’s work has been dedicated to inspiring others to reach their full potential. As she often says, “My highest educational achievement is the ability to inspire others to reach their full potential regardless of race, gender, or socioeconomic status.” Witnessing the success of others brings her immense joy because she understands that achievement is rooted in hard work, determination, and persistence.

Dr. Curtis leads by example through her own commitment to lifelong learning and educational excellence. She earned a Doctorate in Executive Leadership from Houston Christian University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Dillard University. She is certified by the Texas Education Agency as a Superintendent, Principal (K–12), and Mathematics educator (8–12).

Throughout her more than twenty-year career, Dr. Curtis has served in a variety of educational leadership roles, including mathematics instructor, early college educator, adjunct professor, and after school district administrator. Her passion for service began early in her career as a Case Manager with the Amachi Mentoring Program of Big Brothers Big Sisters Working with children and families impacted by incarceration, she coordinated academic support services, mentoring initiatives, and family assistance programs that strengthened educational achievement and social well-being. It was during this experience that the seed for what would later become Monarch Academy was planted.

In 2020, Dr. Curtis transformed her vision into reality by founding Monarch Academy, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding educational opportunities and strengthening communities. Under her leadership, Monarch Academy has secured federal grants, corporate partnerships, and philanthropic support that have enabled the organization to provide innovative programming and community-based initiatives. Guided by her personal philosophy—Reach One, Teach One, Lead One—Dr. Curtis remains committed to developing future leaders and creating pathways to success for underserved populations.

Monarch Academy’s mission is to increase access to STEAM careers in underrepresented communities by creating opportunities for student exposure and providing hands-on, real-world learning experiences. Through intentional partnerships and transformative programs, the organization seeks to build strong character, foster positive self-image, and remain responsive to the evolving needs of the communities it serves.

Whether mentoring aspiring educators, leading organizational growth, or championing educational equity, Dr. Curtis continues to inspire others through servant leadership and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Her legacy is one of empowerment, opportunity, and transformational impact.
